Your security code is a 3- or 4-digit number used as a secure identification method that protects you from fraud and theft. Only the owner of the credit card can know this number, because it is physically printed on the card and is not stored anywhere else.
Your security code is found in one of two places depending on your type of credit card.
- For American Express cards: The security code is a 4-digit number in small type above your credit card's main number on the front of the card.
- For Visa, MasterCard & Discover: The security code is the last 3 digits at the top of the signature strip located on the back of your card.
