On Thursday, November 14, Kansas DOT unveiled the new signs which will be installed along U.S. Bicycle Routes 66 and 76. This is the culmination of months of work by Adventure Cycling and countless volunteers. The signs will be in the ground in time for next year's riding season.

With the designations of U.S. Bicycle Route 501 in Maine and U.S. Bicycle Route 50 in West Virginia, the U.S. Bicycle Route System now includes 27 states and over 14,000 miles of federally-approved bike travel routes!

14,699 people rode in 1,066 Bike Your Park Day rides in 16 countries, including all 50 U. S. states, on September 28. You rode 732,749 miles for an average of 49.9 miles per person. That's equivalent to more than 29 times around Earth!

Amtrak has added trainside checked bike service to its Pennsylvanian route between New York City, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Passengers can check their bikes on the baggage car at seven staffed stations: NY Penn Station, Newark Penn Station, 30th St Station, Harrisburg, Altoona Station, Johnstown Station, Pittsburgh Union Station.

Despite comprising 18% of traffic fatalities, states spend less than 1% of federal safety dollars on improving safety for people who walk and bike. The SAFE Streets Act will dedicate federal dollars to making our roads safer for bicyclists and pedestrians. Please ask your Congress member to support SAFE Streets.

Over 6,100 people rode more than half a million miles during Bike Travel Weekend, May 31 – June 2. That’s more than the distance to the moon and back, and an average of 82 miles per person. Check out more Bike Travel Weekend facts and figures in the report.

Delta Airlines announced that it will now treat bicycles like other checked baggage, without the extra $150 fee. There are still weight and size restrictions, but the new policy will make it easier to bring your bike with you.
