The original 1976 BikeCentennial route that made cross-country cycling famous (Outsidemagazine calls the TransAm the "ultimate bicycle tour"). Ride through the history of the nation and experience colonial Virginia, plantations, Civil War battlefields, Abraham Lincoln's birthplace, the heartland of the country, mining towns, Old West ghost towns, Native American trails, and the Oregon Trail. For more information on this route or to print out the most up to date addenda for these maps please click here.
I bought this set for a client who plans on using an e-bike to make the trek. It is a great map set and very detailed. I was able to use it to create a custom itinerary for a hotel to hotel route for this specific client. The elevation gains / losses and notes that come with each map really add to the value. Overall very impressed with all the detail in these maps. Will definitely buy additional maps for future use.

I recently purchased the paper maps and GPX files for the Delmarva route, the Transamerican route and the Northern Tier route. My cycling friend, an incredible 70 year old man, left from Delaware on March 30 to ride across country and back. He has had a few head traumas with lasting effects on certain types of problem solving. Navigation and planning, electronic devices, multiple apps, and coordinating with his partner who will meet him very few days at campsites, adds up to some complexity which he will overcome once he gets used to new routines. I got to ride with him from northern Delaware to the southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula in VA. It was incredible. I loved the ACA route and the services file was more helpful than I predicted. Now that I am home and back at work, I provide remote support for his trip. I’m glad I got to use the paper and gpx maps for Delmarva myself. Together we are developing a system where I support his tour by managing his gpx files on RideWithGPS in shared private collections that correspond with his paper maps. I preview the route updates and try to predict any challenges. We both use the Wahoo ELEMNT. I find the paper maps, gpx files, and ACA online and personal support to be excellent. I traced routes in RwGPS (automatic) to add the cues and I added the services file to the main routes for each section. Every few days I review the route updates to keep him appropriately informed. He has now switched from Section TA12 to section TA11 and while some of our practices still need to become automatic, he is doing very well. On some days, it is really hard to not be doing this tour with him. However, I am really enjoying my role as support. Who knows, maybe I can connect with him sometime in the summer. Fingers crossed. Considering the complexities of providing route support (especially electronic) that works on multiple platforms and with a variety of user preferences, I believe that my expectations of these product are realistic. ACA has easily surpassed my expectations with their paper and electronic maps, and customer support. They have my highest recommendation.

I'm not sure what else I can say that hasn't been said before. If you are thinking about riding across the country, then the ACA maps are well-worth the investment. I debated between making my own route and following the TransAm, and I'm so incredibly glad I did the latter.

These maps are of superior quality. They are steeped in history about the areas you will journey through. You can plan out each day by distances and elevation changes between points of water, food, services, and lodging of all types. There are hidden gems of support all along the way too. I joked about their rugged usefulness with a Tour Divide racer in Hartsel, Colorado last Summer. We thought they would make a good rain cover in a heavy downpour and you might even be able to eat them if you became stranded without food.(Lol, don't attempt to eat the maps) Perhaps one of the greatest features of the map set is the support that Adventure Cycling puts into them. They sent me route updates before I left for my epic journey across the US. You know this great organization is behind you every mile with these maps. They also make pretty awesome fuel for your dreams.

I was living in Missoula in 1976 working at the local radio station KGVO. I had just purchased a bicycle from Sam Braxton when Bike Centennial happened. I tried to convince the station to send me on the ride to do live radio reports. That didn't work. Now 40 years later I bought the maps of the route. I've been a member of Adventure Cycling for years, but it's only now with the maps in hand do I realize what great work the group is doing. What a resource for a rider! I'll be daydreaming and studying the maps through the long winter ahead, looking forward to finally realizing the adventure next summer.

My wife and I used your maps 34 years ago when we rode the northern parks route from Missoula, Montana to Jasper, Canada. They were invaluable . We studied them and knew where we would be camping each night to reach our goal of 75 miles per day. The detailed information on the maps made it easy. Now I'm hoping to ride cross country . I'm in the process of studying them and learning what to expect. The maps are detailed with the location of all services that a biker might need plus places of interest and riding conditions. Studying the maps and reading the information has gotten me even more excited about my possible upcoming adventure.

I bought the complete set of TransAm maps. The quality is excellent: rainproof and strong. The information is detailed and looks very adequate. The elevation profile and field notes add much to a detailed and pratical preparation of the tour. What would have been nice, is a map with the whole route on it, to have an overview. But perhaps that is because I live in Holland and I am not familiar with the USA geography. Thx ACA, for providing such usefull stuff! Marleen from Holland

For various reasons I've gone "off route" on some of my travels with ACA maps, choosing what I thought were comparable roads. In every case, I've encountered roads with more traffic, poor shoulders, more commercial trucks, or some combination of all of these.
In short order one develops a deep trust in ACA maps that frees the mind to know they have the best routes out there already in place. Thank you for all the research and attention to detail!
