Louisiana is like no other state in the United States due to its history, language, culture, and food. First of all, they have parishes instead of counties, due to early white settlers being Roman Catholic under French and Spanish rule. Boundaries generally coincided with church parishes when the U.S. bought the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. New Orleans is a highlight, famous for its distinctive music scene, Creole food, unique dialects, and many festivals and celebrations. Mississippi offers some beachfront riding into Alabama, where the route crosses a bridge to Dauphin Island. From there it's a ferry ride across Mobile Bay to Gulf Shores and some of the whitest beaches in the world. If the ferry is closed due to inclement weather, you will have to take the alternate route through Mobile. Traffic increases tremendously as the route goes through Pensacola. The route uses occasional rural roads and a state highway which parallels I-10 into Defuniak Springs. Click on enlargement for detail.
I bought the updated map of Section 6 of the Southern Tier bicycle route, New Orleans to DeFuniak Springs, FL. Excellent map, as all of them are. I've bought several items from Cyclosource in the past and it has always been a great experience. The map will be useful as I plan a future commute from my home near New Orleans to my oyster farm at Fort Morgan, Alabama, where I commonly meet springtime touring cyclist crossing Mobile Bay on the ferry from Dauphin Island.

Though we have not done our trip yet, I have planned our daily itinerary with ease using the Ad. Cyc. maps. As a vet. of the Northern Tier from 2006 I used Ad. Cyc. maps and found them invaluable. At times I drifted off route and "bushwacked" for days at a time and felt very unprepared for what was ahead. Great maps.

The map is useful for the planning of a biketrip. It would be helpful if there was more of information about the surroundings, alternatives etc.
