This route lies within a portion of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail corridor. These spurs begin in Washington, D.C., and traverse both sides of the lower Potomac River in the Northern Neck of Virginia and southern Maryland until reaching the Chesapeake Bay. The route passes many points of interest and historic sites that are associated with George Washington and the early history of the U.S.A. A short spur through Washington, D.C. connects to the eastern terminus of the C & O Canal Towpath. A 25-mile spur in Virginia's Northern Neck leads to the Rappahannock River bridge and points southward.
*Note: These tracks include distances on ferries. Total mileage will differ from paper map mileage.
