Building the Largest Official Cycling Route Network in the World

March 22, 2017

Ohio’s contribution to U.S. Bicycle Route 50 was signed last summer (2016).

Ohio designated 313 miles of U.S. Bicycle Route 50 (USBR 50) in 2014 and signs went up along the route in the summer of 2016. Now it’s time to celebrate!

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for USBR 50 will take place in conjunction with the opening day for trails on Saturday, April 8, 2017. The event starts at 11:00AM at the Prairie Grass Trailhead in London, and there are plans to ride through London’s historic downtown area. Details below.

Once complete nationally, USBR 50 will run from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. USBR 50 also roughly follows Adventure Cycling’s planned Chicago to New York route. Maps for that route will be released later this year.

Lets remember the "Largest Bike Network" is only one criteria. The "Safest Bike Network" should also be the goal. Many State highways with speed limits of 65mph or more are not that safe for cycling or family friendly even with a shoulder.

Thanks for recognizing this great trail. It runs past my house and is well traveled and well maintained. Come see Ohio's great small towns!

Great news! I plan to ride the Pittsburgh-Xenia portion of USBR 50 in May. I will let you know all about it.

Thank You Adventure Cycling for recognizing all of the hard work by advocates, community leaders, and government officials all over Ohio.
